Young Variegated Male

Variegated Fairy-wren
Young male

Here's a young male Variegated Fairy-wren I photographed with Kevin Williams last Monday. I think I could spend all my time photographing this one species and I wouldn't get bored. They don't stay still however, and it's difficult to get a clear shot without twigs or leaves in the way. I think he is just changing into his colours. There was one adult male in the group and he was very rich in colour in comparison but more difficult to get in front of the lens.

super shots of this beautiful wren Russell; they have to be up high in my list of favourites, any of the wrens

Wrens, and particularly the males I think, are challenging to try to photograph. We don't get Variegated in Melbourne, so it's interesting to see what they look like as they gain/lose breeding plumage.

What a bird! The name 'fairy wren' can't be more appropriate.

Such a sweet bird, and so pretty in your wonderful captures. I have been away for about two months, so before it's too late came to wish you a very Happy New Year. Thank you for following my blog.

Reminds me of my visit to Australia. I stayed at a B&B in Hall, NSW and I think the first bird I saw each morning was Superb Fairy-Wren. What a charming family of birds!

It's a super little bird Russell. Reminds me of our Long-tailed Tit which is equally active and the same shape tail but doesn't raise it like the fairy wren.
