Northern Goshawk

Adult male with prey

City Park, Niigata, Japan

July 5, 2015

Mr Honma and I visited the goshawk family again on Sunday morning and were happy to see three young sitting about looking pretty healthy. We both managed to get a number of portraits before deciding to leave. Just when we were leaving the adult male flew right over us and landed on a nearby horizontal branch and within seconds one of his daughters took his place.

It was a good view of some interesting behaviour. I wonder what the prey was? I noticed it had two rings,. if you look closely...

This is a heavy crop of the above photo...Do you see the bands on the prey?
