This is Not a Pigeon

Northern Goshawk

Newly fledged

Niigata City, Niigata, Japan

June 21, 2015

We had such a great weekend. On Saturday, we went to Tokyo and saw a magnificent Rene Magritte exhibition. It took 13 years to prepare and consisted of his works from collections around the world. We also enjoyed a full-Aussie breakfast at bills restaurant then a grand lunch at the Outback restaurant.

On Sunday we were back in Niigata and I thrilled at seeing three newly-fledged Northern Goshawks in the secret Niigata city park. It was late and light was low but we got some nice views.

There are a lot of new birds in the city. The kestrel family I have been watching for the last 11 years were also successful in getting three out of the nest. Last week were heard the news that the prefectural office is home to a new Peregrine Falcon and Mr Honma was excited telling me he discovered a second chick on Sunday morning. A good count from three raptor nests!! -3 Northern Goshawks, 3 Common Kestrels and 2 Peregrine Falcons. Sadly the forecast for next weekend is rain on both days so I don't know how many photographic chances we'll get.

Anyway, last weekend was truly eventful and one to be remembered.

Tsubame Swallow

Barn Swallow

"Tsubame" - Japanese

Sakata, Niigata, Japan

June 7, 2015

Beautiful weather today and I went on a nice bike ride with my mate, Billy. I'm teaching him a little  about birding and we managed to watch this family of swallows for a bit. Actually, there was a lady there first trying to get the same shots. A very nice start to summer.

Rose-crowned Fruit Dove

Rose-crowned Fruit Dove

Cape York, Queensland, Australia

October 16, 2012

I'm having a very slow birding year. Thanks for visiting. Here are some so-so pics of a beautiful little dove I saw at Cape York back in 2012. Nice to have such memories.
