Black-shouldered Kite

Southbrook, Queensland, Australia

March 2013

A couple of Black-shouldered Kites sitting on electrical lines in the Southbrook to Felton area. They're lovely little graceful raptors and it's a healthy sign to have them around. Notice their short, fat  toes for dropping belly first into long grass after rats and mice. I have seen them go for birds such as starlings as well.

I just love these raptors, but hadn't spotted how chubby those feet are; beautiful birds and you picked up some super shots of them Russell

Superb shots Russell. To get the eye as well as you have done takes some doing.

I thought I'd commented on these, but obviously not. They are a beautiful little raptor, especially with those red eyes which you've caught.

Very nice photos of a smart raptor. This species used to be common throughout northern Thailand when I started birding, but now they're almost completely gone due to the heavy use of pesticides.....
