Pale Hen Harrier...

Went looking for the local Steller's Sea-eagle again this morning but heard it was there (Fukushimagata, Niigata) until ten minutes before we arrived. Knew my luck couldn't hold out as I'd taken my wet weather lens out on a sunny morning. The most interesting sight was this harrier. I thought from a distance that it was a Rough-legged Buzzard (by the tones). I think it is a pale female Hen Harrier but will change my mind if someone else knows better. (Got two new books on the birds of Japan last week but can't really nail it. My raptors of the world guide doesn't really help either). Disappointed with myself regarding the quality of the photos. It was a good chance. Should have done much better.

Hmm I'm not really good(nor keen actually XD) at raptors neither...but I also think it's a pale female Hen Harrier. Female and juvenile raptors somehow don't look so interesting to me unlike some difficult warblers and gulls. I think that's quite strange.

I think it is a Hen Harrier too.

I've only seen 2 in Hokkaido, you did a lot better than me with these photos.....
