Goshawks 2012

Northern Goshawk
adult female on her nest

Niigata, Japan,

My first visit back in May 2012

Lucky to find Northern Goshawks nesting again this year although they are in a quiet area and have been nervous of onlookers. I visited briefly just three times over the last 6 weeks. I visited today just for 15 minutes and found the two that had recently fledged.

Adult male

Adult seen on my second visit two weeks ago.

Newly fledged bird seen today, July 1, 2012.

This is the second fledgling

How great to be able to observe this majestic bird so closely at the nesting site. I just love the expressions of this species.

Cracking shots Russell. I don't think it would be possible to get shots like that of Goshawks over here becuase they have been so persecuted over many years.
