Buff-banded Rail

Buff-banded Rail

Lake Annand, Toowoomba, Queensland

August, 2011

Thanks to Mick Atzeni for taking me to see this guy in Toowoomba last year. It was much friendlier than one I spent some time trying to get close to in Cairns back in 2007.

Wow, never heard of that one and briliant shots, especially as its a rail - never seen a tame one yet.

What a smart looking rail! I especially like the stretching one. The pattern and colouration are really interesting.

These are great images and I know how hard it is to photograph rails. The greenish background certainly helps.

Great photos! I am so surprised to hear that this bird was at Lake Annand!! We lived in this area for a long time and I never saw one there. I have only seen them in Cairns. It always amazes me the birds that visit such small areas of habitat! Great Photos and report!

They are a handsome bird aren't they? At first glance I thought you might be back in Australia!

Great captures! Rails are so often hidden in reeds and difficult to see let alone photograph!
