Frigatebirds

Lesser Frigatebird male

Portland Roads, Cape York

October 2012

I'm not so good with seabirds being an inland boy. These are some frigatebird pictures taken back in 2012 at Cape York. They seemed just high enough to be out of reach of my lens but I just managed to get good enough id pics, I think. They looked so graceful and unique coming home from the sea.

Hmmn, I think, "Lesser" young female, hmm, maybe male?

A real sky ballet Russell!
Although they were quite high, it is a wonder to see how they dance with ease and elegance!
Enjoy your weekend!

Terrific shots Russell. Your pictures capture how wonderfully adapted to flight frigates are. Only ever seen them in Central America (Mexico) but I remember them as fabulous creatures.

Amazing birds, I've seen them in South America and Indonesia. Maybe one day a typhoon will blow one to Hakodate...........

Frigates are such magnificent birds and I still do not have the good fortune to photograph them yet because they rarely occur near my side of the coastline. Well captured, Russell.

I think they're so graceful in flight, but my guide in Costa Rica (where I saw the Magnificeent Frigatebird) didn't like them because of their piratic behaviour!
