Eastern Buzzard Overhead

Eastern Buzzard

Fukushimagata, Niigata, Japan

A series of an Eastern Buzzard passing overhead, taken a few weeks ago. I've been seeing a few of these around the past month mostly when I don't have my camera. I'm always happy to see one as it is a bird we don't have in Australia. In fact we don't have any buteos in oz, and anyway it's pretty cool looking.

Don't fret Russell, you have your fair share of raptors in Australia!

Nice BIFs.

Great shots Russell. I had to look that one up. Seems it's another sub species of Buteo buteo? It's so pale it could be a Rough-legged Buzzard - do you get those?

Actually, Phil, we do get Rough-legged Buzzards here rarely, I have seen them in Niigata just for the one winter. This Eastern Buzzard is what we usually get and yes, they are much paler than the ones I see on your blog.

Thanks Stu. Yes, Australia certainly has some nice raptors.
