Northern Shoveler male

Some photos of male Northern Shovelers as seen in Niigata between 2009 and 2012.
Actually very striking looking ducks.

They are indeed a very nice duck...........

They just pass through up here and are usually very wary.......

I've never seen birds in snow and ice. Unique pictures for me. Thanks for sharing Russell!

I agree, it is a beautiful duck I rarely where I live: I have to go to Spain to see this species!
Brilliant photos, Russel!
Cheers!

I have to agree Russell, the Shoveler is a very good looking duck. Unfortunately over here they are pretty shy and wouldn't expect to get such good shots as your own. Enjoy your weekend.

I'd be elated if I get to see even a first winter bird here in Malaysia where it is a vagrant. Beautiful shots of the stunning male.
